Jennifer Larmore

Jennifer Larmore  is an American mezzo-soprano, a Grammy winner with over 100 recordings to her name, a Chevalier of the French government, Richard Tucker winner, Hall of Famer and an author! Add straight actress to the list with her appearance in a new Netflix series entitled King the Land to be aired in July/August 2023. She has a wide-ranging repertoire, having begun with coloratura roles from the Baroque and bel canto then adding music from the  Romantic and Contemporary periods.  

She began her career at Opera de Nice in 1986 with Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito and went on to sing at virtually every major opera house in the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, Paris Opera, Tokyo, Berlin Deutsche Oper, and London Covent Garden. Her choice debut role for most of these opera houses was “Rosina” in Il Barbiere di Siviglia”.

Her illustrious career has seen her as Lulu (Geschwitz) at London’s Covent Garden, in Paris, Madrid, Amsterdam and at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma; Janacek’s Jenufa  (Kostelnicka) at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin and at the New National Theater in Tokyo;  Grégoire Hetzel’s  The Fall of Fukuyama with the Orchester Philarmonique de Radio France; Offenbach’s  La belle Hélène  in Hamburg; Macbeth  (Lady Macbeth) in Geneva, Bologna and Reggio Emilia; The Coronation of Poppea  (Ottavia) and  Don Giovanni  (Donna Elvira) at the Theater an der Wien; Wozzeck  (Marie) in Geneva.

She has worked with important conductors such as: Jacobs, Marin, Rizzi, Lòpez Cobos, Runnicles, Sinopoli, Parry, Carella, Allemandi, Spinosi, Pappano, Zedda, Campanella, Harding, Muti, Sinopoli, Barenboim, Ozawa, Masur , Maazel, Bonynge.

At the same time, she carries out an intense concert activity worldwide and in 2009 Jennifer  founded the group Jennifer Larmore & OpusFive with the double bass player Davide Vittone providing a particular mix of chamber music, voice and string quintet.

Among her recent and future engagements:  La belle Hélène  at the Hamburg Staatsoper; Cardillac  (Die Dame) at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino conducted by Fabio Luisi; Pelléas et Mélisande  (Geneviève) at the Regio di Parma, in Modena and Piacenza; The Marriage of Figaro  (Marcellina) at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and at the Suntory Hall in Tokyo; Salome  (Herodias) at the Atlanta Opera and the New National Theater in Tokyo; The Secret Marriage  (Fidalma) and  La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein  at the Cologne Opera; Pique Dame (The Countess) and Andrea Chénier (Madelon) both at the Deutsche Oper.
 
Teaching is a passion of Miss Larmore. For the last three years she has been a Professor of Voice at Seoul National University, in Seoul South Korea. She has given masterclasses all over the world for the last thirty years. Her classes are intense learning opportunities for young singers who want to pursue a career in the opera world.
Miss Larmore lives in Paris with her husband, Bass player Davide Vittone and their little Pomeranian Buffy the Opera Dog!
